The eLearning Broward department of Sheridan Technical Center is using Elluminate Live!® with our adult students to help them improve their academic skills, with an added benefit of allowing students to increase their proficiency and confidence with technology.

Since January 1, 2008, we have had 101 online workshops with over 2,000 total participants. eLearning Broward has established a review area of past workshops that contains 48 sessions and has had over 2,300 connections! By offering live online workshops and archiving past sessions, we've made learning available to our adult students that is truly any time and any place!

Our online workshops have been cited as a factor in the increased number of diplomas earned by our GED students and has helped increase total course participation. In addition, eLearning Broward instructors have participated in multiple trainings and demonstrations across Florida (including statewide education conferences and meetings with other educational entities like the Florida Department of Education) to promote using Elluminate with staff and students.

We hope to inspire others to use Elluminate after seeing many successes with it locally in Broward County and sharing those experiences.

Many times, adult students in ABE and GED classes don't have positive memories of school, so it's a challenge to change that. I need to show them something so different from what they've ever experienced when it comes to school, and Elluminate lets me do just that! Live, online, interactive workshops allow learners to have a whole new perspective on what school can be like. In addition, Elluminate allows adult learners from all over Florida to work together and learn with each other. You just can't get that type of collaborative experience in a traditional classroom.
