Kelvin Bentley, Director of Distance Learning

Located in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, Northampton Community College serves more than 32,000 students a year, with close to 13,000 students enrolled in credit programs and more than 4,500 students enrolled in at least one distance education class. Today Elluminate Live! allows Northampton CC to enhance its instruction and student services, help distance learners build a stronger sense of community, and enable adjunct faculty feel more connected to the college.

While Northampton CC initially deployed Elluminate Live! to provide tutoring assistance that simulated the experience available on campus at its Learning Center, the institution also decided to use the product in other innovative and creative ways, including:

Virtual office hours
Student orientations
Career services presentations
Academic advising
Faculty meetings
Professional development webinars for faculty
Grant collaboration and facilitation
Remote guest speakers for blended online/onsite events

"My role is to make sure that everything we do is of the highest quality. We want to serve as an example of a distance learning model that appropriately uses technology at the state and community college levels. We accomplish this in part by using Elluminate's great web conferencing tool to enhance our online and hybrid instruction as well as our ability to effectively communicate with our students and faculty."
