The largest of its kind in the world, the School of Library and Information Science (SLIS) at San Jose State University serves almost 2,000 graduate students throughout California, across the nation, and around the globe. At the school, Elluminate Live! is an important tool that is used for many purposes. For example, an innovative peer mentor program ensures that all new students use Elluminate Live! before classes begin to prepare for their first semester. In addition, the mentors assist with classes throughout the semester and staff an Elluminate Drop-in Center. Elluminate Live! enables SLIS to provide a wide variety of activities, including:
"As a trainer, I love being able to teach faculty this one tool to meet a wide variety of needs! In addition, we use peer mentors to train new students in using Elluminate. These sessions also help the new students with socialization and building confidence. I've found that training the students leads them to request their teachers to use Elluminate, which drives more use by instructors."
