According to Southern Cross University President Paul Clark, Elluminate Live! fits with what the institution wants to do on a strategic level: providing the same high-quality education to students and enabling them to interact, regardless of location. From a 25-seat trial in 2005 to an unlimited site license in 2007, Elluminate Live! has enhanced teaching and learning, saved time and travel costs, and enabled cooperative research centers to collaborate more effectively.

Today, the entire faculty and staff at Southern Cross University have unlimited access to the software, which has three main applications: teaching, training and meetings.

Teaching (71%) includes:
- Replacement of telephone tutorials
- Recordings and staff development
- Remote participation in weekly lectures
- Student presentations, group work, assessments
- Guest lectures
Staff and student demos and training (17%)
Meetings (9%)
Research supervision/collaboration, seminars for staff/students (3%)
