At the University of Pittsburgh, the Center for Injury Research & Control (CIRCL) conducts and promotes injury control research, gathers and disseminates information on injuries, provides training for health professionals, and informs public and community leaders on injury control issues. The organization has increasingly pushed the envelope to adapt live eLearning and web collaboration technology to many different situations brought on by the mix and demands of venues, meeting types, and user needs.

Examples of how CIRCL has made use of Elluminate's enabling technology include:

Teaching sessions in computer labs
Virtual lectures held in unwired classrooms with wireless technology
Hybrid sessions with a local campus conference room and an online audience with multiple LCD devices
International conference proceedings with multi-lingual audio
Elluminate sessions used in conjunction with teleconference and software bridges to bring in both the old and new technologies

"While we are pleased with these accomplishments, we believe that we are only at the beginning of this endeavor. Large and dynamic macro forces, such as increasing travel costs, improved Internet access, decreased computer costs, and globalization of professional interaction, will continue to drive others in a similar direction. We aim to meet them there as a leader. Ultimately our goal is to promote the understanding of ideas in our field and to learn how to reach out with these ideas further and faster, to existing and new audiences, within the University and around the globe."
