Alberta Teacher Wins 2007 SMARTer Kids Foundation for Innovative Use of Technology Award for Creative Use of Elluminate Live!®
Live eLearning and Web Collaboration Environment Enables Grade 4 Students to Build and Present Electronic Portfolios
Fort Lauderdale, Florida, (June 13, 2007) — Elluminate, Inc., a leading provider of live eLearning and web collaboration solutions, today announced that Alison Hancox, a teacher facilitator with the Argyll Centre at Edmonton Public Schools, is a recipient of the 2007 SMARTer Kids Foundation Innovative Use of Technology Award. Hancox was selected for enhancing and enriching student learning as she guided grade 4 students in the building and presenting electronic portfolios using Elluminate Live!® This pilot project was so successful that at the request of parents and students, Elluminate Live! will be used in grades 4 through 6 in the 2007-2008 school year, tripling registration for the program.

Hancox is the first distance education teacher with Edmonton Public Schools and in the province of Alberta to receive the award, as well as the first teacher supporting home education. Initially, she was selected as one of 130 Alberta teachers as a finalist in the 2007 Excellence in Teaching Awards Program. From this group, three, including Hancox, received the SMARTer Kids Foundation Innovative Use of Technology Award. Established in 1997 by SMART Technologies Inc., the foundation presented each award winner with a technology classroom that includes software and hardware products that help improve student-learning outcomes and streamline lesson planning.

“This award directly relates to my use of Elluminate Live! technology,” said Hancox. “In 20 years of teaching, this has been the most exciting accomplishment for me. Not wanting to replicate the face-to-face environment online, I have been challenged to figure out new ways to support student learning, and I’ve totally rethought my course delivery. Elluminate Live! has given us a way to demonstrate that we can offer one more choice in our delivery of education to students across the province.”

“Elluminate is very proud to have played a part in Alison Hancox’s winning of this prestigious award,” said Maurice Heiblum, president of Elluminate USA, Inc. “Elluminate Live! enables creative, innovative teachers like Alison to change the face of teaching and learning at all academic levels.”
