Rocky View Virtual School Wins First Elluminate Lifetime Achievement Award

Fort Lauderdale, Florida, (March 22, 2007) — Elluminate, Inc., a leading provider of live eLearning and web collaboration solutions for the real-time organization, today announced the 2007 winners of its Center or Excellence (CoE) program, which highlights best practices and recognizes academic institutions and businesses that are at the leading edge of adopting synchronous pedagogies for teaching, learning, and related business processes. The program also recognizes Elluminate Heroes, individuals or teams who are responsible for their institutions being accepted into the program. In addition, Elluminate has recognized Rocky View Virtual School and Todd Kiernan with a 2007 Elluminate Lifetime Achievement Award for dramatically changing how children are educated, creating an online community where students can find success, and enhancing student outcomes, including increased course completion rates and improved average and final course marks.

Elluminate Heroes and Centers of Excellence
The Elluminate Center of Excellence program highlights best practices and recognizes academic institutions and corporations that have implemented Elluminate Live! in creative ways to improve classroom or distance learning programs, corporate training, faculty or staff communication and collaboration, or administrative operations. Winners must have demonstrated real-world results such as increased student achievement or retention. For 2007, those institutions named to the Elluminate CoE and their respective Elluminate Heroes are:

  • University of Kansas Medical Center – Darrin Cheney. Delivering synchronous course content for students of Schools of Allied Health, Medicine, and Nursing nationwide.
"I believe Elluminate Live! has significantly increased the level of connectedness between our staff and students," said Graeme Wilson, vice principal at Fraser Valley Distance Education School. "The program has become culturally established in all aspects of our organization, and we are continually finding new ways to use it. One of the most powerful uses is to have students present their own work, which is authentic learner-focused online learning."

"ICT (information and communication technology) tools, like Elluminate, Blackboard LMS, weblogs, wikis, and podcasts, alone do not improve the quality of student learning," said Dr. Norm Vaughan, coordinator of Inquiry and Blended Learning at University of Calgary. "However, they can be used to make a transformational shift in teaching approaches, from disseminating information to creating learning environments that enable students to collaboratively construct their own knowledge."

"Our Elluminate Center of Excellence program showcases those institutions and individuals who are the best of the best in developing live eLearning programs that provide significant benefit to their respective organizations," said Maurice Heiblum, President of Elluminate USA, Inc. "We are excited by the innovative use of Elluminate Live! by our winners, and we are especially pleased to name long-time customer Rocky View Virtual School as our first Lifetime Achievement Award winner."
