Elluminate Partners with University of Calgary to Deliver Flexible, Open Collaboration Environment
Live eLearning and Web Conferencing Technology Facilitates Teaching, Learning and Research Worldwide
Fort Lauderdale, Florida, (February 23, 2007) — Elluminate, Inc., a leading provider of live eLearning and web collaboration solutions for the real-time organization, announced today that the University of Calgary (U of C) has deployed Elluminate Live!® Academic Edition™ as part of the university's full-service teaching and learning environment. The U of C uses Elluminate Live! to hold virtual office hours, bring together distance and face-to-face students, allow students to conduct group project meetings, hold live presentations with guest presenters, review exam material online and collaborate on global research projects. In addition, the university is working closely with Elluminate to provide insight on the needs of higher education and offer input regarding the future direction of the product.

According to U of C CIO Harold Esche, the university wanted to move forward aggressively in changing its approach to teaching and learning with a focus on blended learning. "We were looking for a thoughtful, well-designed integration of traditional classroom teaching and other methodologies, which can include technology," said Esche. "We selected Elluminate Live! because of its low-bandwidth connectivity, multi-platform support and Blackboard integration. In addition, we wanted to build a relationship with the company that not only just delivered the tools needed for our teaching and learning environment, but also enabled us to work together to develop a platform for experimentation."

The U of C Teaching & Learning Centre is providing Elluminate Live! support to various departments within the university, including the Graduate Division of Educational Research (GDER), and has offered the product for use by the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) Fellowship for Afghanistan. The fellowship builds leadership and management skills and provides technical support for a core group of senior academics, practitioners and Afghan government officials. With Elluminate Live! the UNITAR program can connect participants in five countries and across seven time zones to facilitate coaching, mentoring, skill building activities, team projects and distance education, all without travel under dangerous conditions or expensive audio or video conferencing.

"The University of Calgary is to be commended for its innovative and far-reaching uses of Elluminate's live eLearning and web collaboration technology," said Nashir Samanani, president and CEO of Elluminate, Inc. "We look forward to continuing our relationship with the U of C to develop new tools and methodologies to enhance its blended teaching and learning environment and to support the university's training and research initiatives. We are also excited to support the work of the university and UNITAR in Afghanistan and are delighted that we can bring together, through the use of our technology, knowledge and expertise from five different countries in a cost-effective and safe way to assist the intelligentsia of Afghanistan."
