vRoom Provides Homework Help for Struggling Math Students
An online teacher at West Central Learning Academy,
Kim Ellerbrock was already an experienced Elluminate
Live! user when she was introduced to vRoom. The online public school makes it a requirement to use Elluminate
Live! in every class at least twice each semester, with some instructors using it as often as weekly. The academy also uses Elluminate
Live! during PTA meetings, enabling parents to attend at a distance.
As part of a government-funded program, West Central Learning Academy provides extra help for students who are struggling with the math courses they need for the Ohio graduation test. So when the school’s curriculum coordinator suggested that Kim use new Elluminate vRoom to provide after-school homework help, she was immediately on board. Today, Kim holds virtual office hours daily from 8am to 4pm, providing new students with single-click access to immediate answers to their questions.
Student response has been significant, earning Kim the honor of being selected as the first “Host the Most in Your vRoom” award winner. “I hold student orientation meetings almost every week, and I always introduce Elluminate vRoom to the new students,” Kim explains. “”The math curriculum can be challenging, so students need access to a licensed teacher on hand. With vRoom, I’m there to answer their questions, and the smaller room size encourages use as students are less hesitant to participate.”
